Фінляндія підписала із США угоду про військову співпрацю
Фінляндія 18 грудня підписала угоду про посилення військової співпраці зі Сполученими Штатами, через день після того, як президент Росії Володимир Путін виступив із заявами щодо вступу цієї країни в НАТО.

Угода формалізує тісніші зв’язки з Вашингтоном із вступом Фінляндії в Альянс у квітні, а також передбачає можливість присутності і тренування американських сил та попереднє розміщення оборонної техніки США на території Фінляндії.
Міністр оборони Антті Хяккянен, який прибув у Вашингтон для підписання угоди, привітав її як "сильний знак прихильності США захисту Фінляндії та всієї Північної Європи".
"Ми не очікуємо, що Сполучені Штати піклуватимуться про захист Фінляндії. Ми продовжуємо інвестувати в нашу оборону", - зазначив він.
Держсекретар США Ентоні Блінкен, своєю чергою, зазначив, що "Фінляндія, як ніхто, знає, що зараз на кону для України".
"У 1939 році фіни також зіткнулись із російським вторгненням, й довели, що вільний народ може чинити неймовірно потужний і стійкий опір. Ваша історія також служить нагадуванням про те, чому так важливо, щоб ми всі продовжували підтримувати Україну", - сказав він.
Що передувало
Після повномасштабного російського вторгнення в Україну 2022 року, 18 травня 2022 року, Фінляндія офіційно подала заявку на вступ у НАТО. 4 квітня 2023 року Фінляндія вступила в Альянс і стала 31 його членом. Днями президент РФ Путін днями погрожував "проблемами", які виникнуть у відносинах РФ з Фінляндією, і заявив, що наказав створити новий військовий округ у регіонах, які межують із цією країною.
